Marley & Me
August 2nd 2006 05:56
Marley & Me is an impromptu autobiography of a dog named Marley and how, through sheer innocence, sillyness, and undying childishness, managed to creep into the lives of the Grogan family and impose upon joy, happiness, and as many chewed-up shoes a dog can salivate on in a lifetime.
The book follows the young Grogan couple turn their little Miami house into a home, with the help of a still-puppy Marley and an increasing number of paychecks he has already eaten. Marley eventually grew into a big, nearly 100-pound dog, and along came the inevitable trash and lost-but-found treasures around the house. Finding your remote control buried in the backyard will never be cliche again. Scouring through dog's poop to find your engagement ring will never be icky or disgusting either.
Despite the "insecurities" and "impurities" and "flaws" Marley might have, the Grogans have stuck with him loyally and truthfully, just as Marley has with them. Soon the family grew, and their love and adoration for Marley grew with them. Marley has been their constant companion in the best and worst of times - sticking by the code of dogs that thou shalt be forever loyal to ye own master.
I finally reached the end chapters one sunny day. I hate to admit this, but I was literally bawling my eyes out when the ending came.
For those of you who are looking not just for a great read, but a heart-wrenching, life-inspiring, oh-so-moving book... Marley and Me is definitely a fine piece.
Marley held on for dear life, each day treasuring the moment with his master, always the carefree, vigilant, eternally youthful, faithful dog, by his side. If only everyone was like him.
I rate this novel:
8/10
